First Responder Training - Three Types
First responder training is usually thought to only be paramedics, or people in specialized fields like that. However, you do not have to be a paramedic, firefighter, or policeman, in order to be a first responder. In many small towns all around the country, there are regular people who volunteer their time in order to help others when they get into trouble. These are the store owners, the business people, the construction workers, and teachers of our communities. First responder training is also very diversified now so people can be trained in one of three different types.
Instead of a simple course with CPR or first aid training course, first responder classes have become quite focused in their scope depending on the specific job. Several years ago, a first responder was someone who took several hours of training, that covered a wide spectrum of topics. These included CPR and first aid, but also a lot of different things. In some communities, some of these topics were simply not needed. For example, you would need to know any type of training for woods accidents if you live in a city. Because of this, first responder training have evolved into several different individual classes.
One such class is a wilderness first responder course. Many people in rural areas are taking this type of class. The reason is that it is site specific. Many people in the rural areas make their living in the woods. Through different jobs like woodsman, farming, and even guiding, people can provide for their families. When a problem breaks out, these people, if they have taken the appropriate first responder training, can lend a helping hand.
Another version of a first responder class is in emergency training. This is your typical first responder. When a fire breaks out, an accident happens, a natural disaster, or some other catastrophe first occurs, these first responders are there to give initial first aid and helping those who are trapped. They go through the usual CPR courses and first aid training, but also learn about how to evacuate persons who are trapped, traffic suppression, and other specific topics.
Lastly, there is the medical first responder. In many rural areas, this is the person who will show up after a call goes out before the actual ambulance can get there. Think of them as sort of a nurse with special training. They will be able to assess the situation, and offer basic first aid. Many teachers, coaches, and other people who work around children, and even the elderly, are trained as this type of first responder.
There are times when it is worthwhile to go through some first responder training. Make sure you know which type of training you want to go through, and which one is actually the most needed in your area. You never know when an accident will happen, someone will fall down, or someone gets lost. People are needed in all these areas. Being a first responder is very fulfilling and can save many lives.
